List of National Retail Chains Requiring Masks is Growing

Current tally: 15 national retailers now require masks in every store. Privately owned companies are free to implement mask rules, regardless of local or state law. You can learn more here. The issue: keeping employees from getting ill AND avoiding having to close the store/restaurant for cleaning after an employee tests positive.

Local stores are following close behind.

So, how does a company protect their employees?

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has advocated for the use of masks and Virginia Governor Ralph Northam has asked Virginians to wear masks while visiting indoor businesses. "If a customer refuses to adhere to store policies, they are putting employees and other customers at undue risk". It's designating certain trained employees as "health ambassadors".

American Eagle- In an effort to help keep our associates and customers safe, we require masks or facial coverings at all times when shopping in our AE and Aerie stores. When a mask-less customer heads in the door they worry about a reaction.

The company will require all customers in all Kroger stores to wear a mask starting July 22. Face coverings will be required for all of our teams and customers. "What we are asking is that clients assist defend themselves and these round them by listening to the specialists and heeding the name to put on a face protecting".

Best Buy and Starbucks required customers to wear facemasks on July 15. Everyone is required to wear a face covering so we can help protect each other.
