Chad Daybell charged after authorities searched his home, found humans remains

Both Chad and Lori are under investigation by the Idaho Attorney General's Office for possible conspiracy, attempted murder and murder in connection to the death of Tammy Daybell.

BOISE, Idaho-Human remains have been found at an Idaho man's home that was searched Tuesday during an investigation into the disappearance of his new wife's two children-a case that has vexed investigators since past year and attracted worldwide attention.

With their mother, Lori Vallow, now in custody on charges including two felony counts of desertion and nonsupport of children and her husband Chad Daybell in court Wednesday, what happened to Joshua and his sister may soon become clearer. The search warrant is sealed, and Rexburg Assistant Police Chief Gary Hagan said in a statement he couldn't reveal details other than to say the search was linked to the disappearance of the children.

Police say Daybell has been taken into custody but he has not been arrested or charged yet.

He faces two charges of destroying or concealing evidence, a felony offense.

Law enforcement officers first searched Chad Daybell's home on January 3 in connection with Tammy's death, removing more than 40 items including several pieces of computer equipment. Investigators also have followed the couple through the mysterious deaths of both of their first spouses and Vallow's brother over the past year.

The remains, found at Chad Daybell's rural Idaho property Tuesday, have not yet been identified, but a prosecutor said they belonged to children and the way one was concealed was "particularly egregious". Lori's brother claimed that the shooting was in self-defense and no charges were brought against him.

During Daybell's court appearance Wednesday, a probable cause hearing was set for July 1-2. He ran a small publishing company, putting out many fiction books he wrote about apocalyptic scenarios loosely based on the theology of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. September 23, 2019, was the last time that JJ was seen attending his school in Idaho.

The kids (who were 17 and 7 years old at the time), went missing in September 2019. The results of that autopsy have not been released. This is the second raid they have done on Daybell's home.

Meanwhile, JJ's grandparents, Larry and Kay Woodcock of Louisiana, were growing increasingly anxious about the kids.
