Powell backs Biden for US president

Powell went on to say that he "could not possibly" vote for Trump due to being "deeply troubled" by his remarks stoking the Obama "birther" conspiracy and insulting Gold Star mothers, John McCain, immigrants and "anybody who dared to speak against him".

"We have a Constitution, and we have to follow that Constitution".

On Sunday, Powell claimed he can't in any way support the president and highlighted his ties to Biden. "And the president has drifted away from it", Powell said.

The spat between Powell and Trump is an unsurprising development.

The New York Times reported former President George W. Bush - under whom Powell served as secretary of state - and frequent President Trump critic, Sen. "He is now the candidate and I will be voting for him".

"I think what we're seeing now, this massive protest movement". But protests in cities across the country have continued for more than a week.

Floyd: US cities brace for more riots as Trump threatens greater force
The report was commissioned after the racist murder of a black teenager, Stephen Lawrence, at a bus stop in south London in 1993. Minneapolis, where Floyd was killed and the epicenter of the violence , had already introduced one.

If there was any point in time that Trump can prove to be an actual leader, it would be now but it's evident as ever that he's not fit for the job as president of the United States.

"Many of us watched the use of active-duty military to clear peaceful protesters out of Lafayette Square, and it rang echoes of what the founders feared more than anything which was the use of armed active-duty military against citizens", retired Admiral James Stavridis said on NBC's "Meet the Press".

U.S. Senator Lisa Murkowski last week told reporters she was struggling over whether she would back Trump in the November 3 election and praised Mattis' strong words as did fellow Republican Mitt Romney.

Former Secretary of State Colin Powell, seen here in December 2018 with his wife, Alma, said he would vote for Joe Biden. "I'm proud that they were willing to take the risk of speaking honesty and speaking truth to those who are not speaking truth". He called for expedited investigations into Floyd's death, but has come under fire for not directly addressing systemic racism in the country. We have done away with our contributions to the World Health Organization.

Trump has frequently called for a crackdown on "thugs" and "lowlife scum", and has said he would use all resources, including the USA military, to quell violence.

"Colin Powell, a real stiff who was very responsible for getting us into the disastrous Middle East Wars, just announced he will be voting for another stiff, Sleepy Joe Biden".
