Bucks forward Middleton named to second career All-Star Game

When the fourth quarter begins, the scores for each team from the first three quarters combined will be redisplayed, and the team that wins the All-Star Game will be the first to reach a target score in the untimed fourth quarter.

The NBA announced the All-Star reserves on Thursday night, and Paul, now with the Oklahoma City Thunder, was selected for the 10th time while Westbrook of the Houston Rockets was chosen for the ninth occasion.

"If the cumulative score of the first three quarters is 100-95, the final target score would be set at 124 points".

Jayson Tatum returned after three games out with a groin injury and celebrated his first All-Star nod in fitting fashion, contributing 20 points, six rebounds and two assists as the Boston Celtics topped the Golden State Warriors 119-104.

The NBA said in a statement the changes were "designed to increase the level of competition throughout the game, provide additional excitement at the finish and make the outcome of every quarter count for charity".

The last time as many as nine players made their debuts in the All-Star Game in the same year was in 2010, when nine players also were first-time honorees, according to Elias Sports Bureau research.

As part of the sweeping changes unveiled for the 16 game, each quarter will serve as a mini-game for charity and scores will be reset to start both the second and third periods.

After making his first All-Star appearance last season, Middleton will once again join teammate and All-Star Game captain Giannis Antetokounmpo for the second straight season as Bucks representatives at this year's All-Star Game.

The NBA says, ultimately, $1 million will be donated to Chicago-based charities.

The community organization selected by the victor of each of the first three quarters will receive $100,000 - a total of $300,000 donated to charity for those three quarters.

Each of the first three quarters will be worth $100,000, and the money will roll over to the next quarter in the event of a tie.

The game will take place on Sunday, Feb. 16 at the United Center in Chicago, airing live at 5 p.m. PT on TNT.
