Kyle Allen will start for Carolina, but the Panthers will need Christian McCaffrey to carry the offense against a Cardinals defense that allows 458.5 yards per game.

Kyle Allen started at quarterback in the final game of the 2018 season after getting his first National Football League experience in the previous contest when Newton's backup at the time, Taylor Heinicke, got hurt.

Newton did not practice for the third straight day after reaggravating his left foot sprain in Thursday night's loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers that dropped the Panthers to 0-2.

The 30-year-old has not thrown a touchdown in his two starts this season and has one interception in 89 pass attempts. Rivera stormed out of a press conference on Thursday after just two-and-a-half minutes due to being peppered with constant questions regarding Newton.

Quarterbacks have been dropping like flies in the National Football League this season.

Backup QB Kyle Allen will be starting for the team this Sunday, with Will Grier in the back-up slot. He started the team's final game of 2018 after Newton was shut down with the shoulder issue.

CNN Weather TS Humberto forecast to be hurricane Sunday
The Bahamas Prime Minister Hubert Minnis said on Wednesday the official death toll stood at 50 but was expected to rise. The National Hurricane Center is warning that a tropical storm could hit areas already flattened by Dorian.

"I can't remember (the play the injury happened)", McVay said. I'm not gonna talk about it anymore, guys. "I'm not gonna do this anymore, OK?"

According to Rivera, Cam's foot is still sore after re-aggravating it in last week's game.

Unfortunately for them, Ron Rivera was in no mood to talk about Cam.

The head coach was then asked where his confidence level was on Newton after he said before the season opener that he was 100% confident in Newton.

However, Cardinals' rookie quarterback Kyler Murray is expected to play on Sunday (1:05 p.m. PT/4:05 p.m. ET on FOX, DirecTV) in a Week 3 game.
